Elohim Hayyim: On the Amidah

What happens when you become not
Our Redeemer
Our Saviour
And Our Shield?
But the Maker of Patriachs and descendants,
Pestering, tempestuous, and proud?

What becomes of Shmoneh Esreh then?
Not the benedictions but the lives that encircle them.

Let us bow down not to the image of masters or kings
But the One who we return to
And who returns to us
When all the statues and epiphets crumble away.
