Ode To Autumn

Here’s to the tree
whose leaves are green-yellow,
orange and rust
blazing like a fire
burning in the daylight
Here’s to the tree
with leaves of burgundy
such a deep red
that my eyes drink as if savoring wine
Here’s to the bright yellow leaves
of the ginkgo, birch and tulip poplar
shining like buttercups
glowing like the sun
If this be my last year on earth
the last year I breathe
then I am thankful to have seen
one last fall
I am grateful to have beheld
this glorious autumn
And if I am granted more years
may I never lose my wonder
of earth’s beauty
May I never cease my awe
for radiance
