Ceremony for Coming Out As Gay

Play (or sing or have played by a music player) “Hava Nagila”. Invite others to sing along if you wish.

Then say, “Shalom. As Psalm 118 states, ‘This is the day which the L-RD hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.’ Today’s reason to be glad is that I am coming out as gay. I am glad that I am able to do this, which many people are not. I am glad I have been able to realize and understand my sexual orientation, and that I am able to announce it to you all. Blessed be G-d for giving me this good fortune.

Let us now recognize this day with challah.  [Either hand out challah or make it available on a table or similar nearby.] As we eat, let us each reflect on our own blessings and differences. Then let us go in peace. Shalom.”
