Broken and Whole

Jagged mountain peaks covered in greenery under a hazy, pastel-colored sky at sunset or sunrise.

Do we have the courage
to step into this new year
pummeled by dire premonitions,
SIRENS BLARING
castles of culture
crumbling
plunging
into disarray
dust.

Is our trust in the arc of justice
strong enough to cordon off
despair
doubt
depression
allowing us to enter holy ground
wrapped in prayer shawl
stand before the One
on this new moon
with conviction the wheel will turn
in our lifetime.

We yearn to feel rush of exhilaration
blood pumping through our veins
fulfilling our deployment
to raise fallen sparks of the Divine
in every
living oak
blade of grass
human heart
disparate pieces of dismantled whole.

May we discover shattered shards
scattered amidst pebbles
floating on seaweed
pressed up against mountain cliffs
piece together a
con fig  u  ra   tion
brimming with love
a new constellation of energy
grounded in the earth’s fertile soil
moistened with amniotic fluid
a vision of regeneration
where the broken becomes whole.
