An Artist’s Prayer on a Particularly Existential Rosh Hashanah

Paint me an impulsive color,
I am honey-stuck.
Sweet, viscous, and dripping off an apple.
Pleasant, sluggish, and sticking to an apple.
Shallow, mucousy, and smothering an apple.
Nowhere to drip but down

So paint me an impulsive color,
cherry-red, or tangerine,
and you’ll buy me time
to evaporate.
