These are the women of light –
who came before us,
lighting candles –
candles of the heart,
candles of the soul,
candles deep within.
These are the women of light –

our foremothers of ancient IsraelLit. ''the one who struggles with God.'' Israel means many things. It is first used with reference to Jacob, whose name is changed to Israel (Genesis 32:29), the one who struggles with God. Jacob's children, the Jewish people, become B'nai Israel, the children of Israel. The name also refers to the land of Israel and the State of Israel.,
our grandmothers and our mothers,
our aunts and our sisters.
These are the women of light
who taught us to kindle
our own special light,
the light of our souls
the light deep within.
These are the women of light among us
who keep the traditions
who create new ways
and teach us to sing
the songs of our souls.
These are the women of light among us
who open our minds
who open our hearts
who bring us into the soul light.
