As I Face my Plate: a Shehechayanu for an Eating Disorder

woman eating breakfast in bed
Blessed are You, Lord our God, Spirit of the Universe,
You sustain and guide me to this moment.
In this struggle with your commandment,
To preserve life, a sacred mitzvah.
As I face my plate with hesitation and dread,
I, a vulnerable, mortal being, beseech you.
Grant me strength like Moses leading Israel,
Like David defeating the mighty Goliath.
Through generations, your strength endured,
In a world unwelcome, survival they found.
Grant me the strength to sustain my life,
As you commanded, a divine pursuit.
You have kept me, sustained me,
Now, I implore your help, O Spirit divine.
