A Shiva for Personal Loss

I’m sitting shiva
For all the days, I got up and ran
When really, I wanted to be makeup-less and lowered.

Gone is the moment I covered my tears.
And gone is the water bowl made empty by resignation and helping.

Who will arrange the catering?
I still do not know.
But I’ll take the concluding walk now
Not around the block
But to my bed.

For my next act of living will be
Lighting my own candle.
