SUMMARY:Whole-Self Prayer: Bringing Body\, Heart\, Mind\, and Spirit to Prayer
DESCRIPTION:Monday\, January 11\, 2027\n12:00-1:30 p.m. ET\n$18\n \nWhat happens when we bring our whole selves to prayer—not only our words and thoughts\, but also our bodies\, hearts\, emotions\, and spirits?\n \nIn this gentle and embodied gathering with Rabbi Jaymee Alpert\, we’ll explore Whole-Self Prayer\, a practice that weaves together movement\, Jewish wisdom\, and reflection. Through mostly chair-based exercises\, with optional floor variations\, we’ll have an opportunity to slow down\, notice what is present within us\, and discover new ways of entering into prayer.\n \nTogether\, we’ll consider how movement and embodied awareness can deepen our relationship with Jewish prayer—and how prayer might meet us differently when we make space for the wisdom of our whole selves.\n \nNo prior experience with movement\, meditation\, or embodied prayer is necessary. All exercises are offered with options and invitations rather than expectations\, so you can participate in whatever way feels right for you.\n \nCome as you are\, and bring your whole self. This gathering is part of Ritual Lab\, Ritualwell’s new monthly series celebrating innovation in contemporary Jewish ritual. Each session features visionary writers\, artists\, and spiritual leaders who are expanding Jewish ritual practice in creative\, meaningful\, and accessible ways.\n \nThis event will be recorded and sent to participants. We encourage live attendance for you to get the most out of the experience.\n \n\nFor twenty years Rabbi Jaymee Alpert was a congregational rabbi. She sat with people on the best days of their lives and the worst\, learning what it looks like when someone is quietly coming apart\, and what it takes to help them put themselves back together. She also lifts weights and teaches boxing. And over time\, she noticed something: people say things while they’re moving that they would never say sitting still.\n \nSo she stopped treating the body as separate from the rest of the person. Fifteen years ago\, she started wondering what would happen if people moved their bodies before they did the harder inner work\, and has been asking that question ever since\, one-on-one\, and with whole rooms full of people. Now Rabbi Jaymee works with people who want a Jewish practice they can feel in their muscles the next day. And with plenty of people who don’t fit neatly into any category. Find her at www.strongandgrounded.com.\n\n

SUMMARY:Finding Spiritual Resilience During Challenging Times
DESCRIPTION:Thursdays\, January 21\, and 28 and February 4\, and 11\, 2027\n12-1:30 p.m. ET\n$180\n \n\nHow do we find the inner strength to speak out\, gather\, and take action in a time of ongoing injustice? And how do we nourish our spirits\, discern what is ours to do\, and find joy along the way?\n \nOur Jewish tradition reminds us that we are not obligated to complete the work of tikkun olam (repairing the world)\, but neither are we free to abandon it. How can we live with this tension while sustaining our commitment to justice\, tending to our spiritual lives\, and protecting ourselves from burnout?\n \nJoin us this winter for a special series with Rabbi Haviva Ner-David\, author\, spiritual director\, and peace activist. Drawing on her own lived experience\, Haviva will invite you to reflect on these questions\, connect with sources of strength and wisdom\, and explore practices that can help you cultivate spiritual resilience. Together\, we’ll explore how to keep showing up for the work of repair while making space for rest\, connection\, and joy—even in a struggling world.\n \n\nAll sessions will be recorded and sent to participants. We encourage live attendance for you to get the most out of the experience.\n \nRabbi Dr. Haviva Ner-David is a rabbi and writer. She is the rabbinic founder of Shmaya: A Mikveh for Mind\, Body\, and Soul\, the only mikveh in Israel open to all to immerse as they choose. Ordained as both a rabbi and an interfaith minister\, certified as a spiritual companion (with a specialty in dreamwork)\, and holding a doctorate on mikveh from Bar Ilan University\, she offers mikveh guidance and spiritual companioning for individuals and couples and mikveh workshops and talks for groups. She is the author of three spiritual journey memoirs — Dreaming Against the Current; A Rabbi’s Soul Journey; and Chanah’s Voice: A Rabbi Wrestles with Gender\, Commandment; and the Women’s Rituals of Baking\, Bathing\, and Brightening; and Life on the Fringes: A Feminist Journey Towards Traditional Rabbinic Ordination\, which was a runner up for the National Jewish Book Council Awards; as well as two novels: Hope Valley and To Die in Secret; and the first and only children’s book on mikveh: Yonah and the Mikveh Fish. She lives in Israel on Kibbutz Hannaton\, is the mother of seven children\, a teacher and lives with FSHD\, a genetic muscular disease\, which has been her biggest life challenge.\n

SUMMARY:Take It or Leave It? Rethinking the Haftarah
DESCRIPTION:Monday January 25\, 2027\n12:00-1:30 p.m. ET\n \n\nFor generations\, the words of the prophets have been woven into Jewish worship through the haftarah—the reading that traditionally follows the Torah portion. But today\, many Jews encounter the prophets only through worship\, and many Jews don’t attend Shabbat morning services at all. Some liberal synagogues have even moved away from reading the haftarah altogether.\n \nJoin Rabbi Barbara Symons\, author of Prophetic Voices\, for a lively exploration of the history and meaning of the haftarah. We’ll consider why the prophets lost some of their primacy in contemporary Jewish life\, what it means that “haftarah” actually means “conclusion” rather than “prophets\,” and whether it is “kosher” to let other voices—poets\, writers\, artists\, and contemporary truth-tellers—fill that space.\n \n\n\n \nThis event will be recorded and sent to participants. We encourage live attendance for you to get the most out of the experience.\n\n \nRabbi Barbara Symons is a proud graduate of the University of Michigan and was ordained by Hebrew Union College – Jewish Institute of Religion in 1994. She currently serves as the rabbi of both Temple Beth-El of City Island\, Bronx and the Reform Temple of Putnam Valley. Most recently\, she served as the rabbi of Temple David in Monroeville\, Pennsylvania just outside of Pittsburgh for 18 years and was named Rabbi Emerita. She loves to pray with and learn with people of all ages as well as actively work together to repair the world especially with partners from the interfaith and local civic community. She is thrilled to have even a small part in raising up prophetic voices through the many diverse voices included in her book Prophetic Voices: Renewing and Reimagining Haftarah (CCAR Press). Barbara met her husband Rabbi Ron Symons during their first week in Jerusalem at Hebrew Union College and is daily and deeply proud of\, and inspired by\, him and their three children all of whom are not only committed Jews but learned\, creative Jewish professionals. \n\n
