Abundance Shrine

This 3" diameter pocket shrine, designed and handcrafted by Kohenet Ketzirah of Devotaj Sacred Arts, has a jeweled pomegranate on one side and calligraphic representation of the first letters of the Hebrew words (notarikon): Heaven (שָׁמַיִם), Deep (תְּהוֹם), Breasts (שָׁדַיִם), Womb (רָחַם).

These are the words of the Jewish blessing found in Gen 49:25: "The Almighty, who shall bless you, with blessings of heaven above, blessings of the deep that lies beneath, blessings of the breasts, and of the womb," and has been used for centuries to invoke abundance and prosperity.

The use of notarkion, also called rosh tevos, siman, and many other terms, goes back to at least 150 BCE and has been used in a variety of ways ever since.

*** The Symbolism ***

The "notarikon" שתרש (shin tav resh shin) is one of my own divining, drawing on ancient practices of creating new words out of the first letter of each word of a phrase or series of words and the use of calligraphic representations of letters and words in Hebrew to create imagery. The letters תר are combined here into a single form, as the letter ר can be seen within the ת (on the right). The designed form is intended to resemble a gateway—a birthing places—an opening for manifestation—the gates of abundance and prosperity.

The ש on the right is in the correct direction as you view it, the ש on the left appears backward, but if you were to stand on the other side of the gateway, it would be in the correct direction.

The pomegranate is a symbol of prosperity and abundance in many traditions and cultures around the world. Here it is filled with french-knot seeds and seed beads to show abundance and prosperity overflowing into your life and the world.

The shrine is made from linen hand embroided with a mixture of linen, cotton, or bamboo, and metallic flosses, and accented with seed beads.

It comes with a cord that I weave on a lucet, which is used to keep the shrine closed during transport or between uses. The cord is made from an amazing yarn that is silk & baby camel yarn—if you are vegan alternatives are available. The cord is decorated with beads, which are chips of garnet or other appropriate gems.

It is framed with two 3" wooden embroidery hoops sanded and painted gold that are hinged together with brass hinges.

It is able to stand on its own in many different configurations. The construction also allows you to keep special texts or small objects inside the shrine when it is closed and stored away.

NOTE: Shrine does not come with candles or other items show.
