Prayer Upon Rising

On 7th February, 2007, I was inspired to write “Prayer upon Rising” while listening to Great Mass in C Minor by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, played by my sister-in-law, pianist, Linda Nicholson.

Hebrew translation by Aviva Ophir
Musical Arrangement by Shlomi Eni

Prayer Upon Rising

Thank You, God, for enabling me
to join my friends and take part
In a new day’s dawning.
Place words of praise on my pen –
I am a willing tool -
But distance me from pride.

Help me be a loving partner
To my husband
And to heed his counsel,
To relate to my children
With fond attention,
To channel my narcissism
In pursuit of perfection

And to finally find tranquility.

I entreat You, Lord, to set mankind
On the path of love and laughter
And to grant me the wisdom
To act according to Your Will.
Guide me in the ways of the new era,
Teach me humility
And bless my creative work.
